A Procedure Requiring Advanced Skill — What Is a Sinus Lift?

This is a treatment method in which bone is grafted inside the maxillary sinus before implant placement.

The Advantage of Sinus Lift

If the air pocket inside the upper jawbone extends too far down, implant placement can be difficult. In such cases, we use skilled technique and safe treatment to graft bone inside the maxillary sinus, securing sufficient bone volume before proceeding with implant placement.

Sinus Lift Treatment Process

01 Anesthetize the upper jaw and molar area, then incise the gum
02 Access and create an opening based on jawbone thickness
03 Lift the membrane lining the sinus and graft bone
04 Place the implant into the grafted bone

Lateral Window Approach
When jawbone height is 5mm or less,
the lateral wall of the sinus is opened and bone is grafted through it
Crestal Approach
When jawbone height is 5mm or more,
an opening is made through the alveolar ridge below the sinus to graft bone

Precautions After Sinus Lift

Eat only liquid or soft foods for 2–3 days after treatment.

Do not blow your nose or use a straw. If you have a nosebleed, only dab it gently.

Apply cold compresses for the first 2 days, then switch to warm compresses from day 3.

Rinse/disinfect the area for 2 minutes each morning and evening.

If you need to sneeze, be sure to open your mouth.

Avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths, saunas, alcohol, and smoking for one week after treatment.

Do not brush or touch the surgical site with your tongue.
